If it is embedded, then it is a wav file. If you publish the presentation as an
html file. PowerPoint will extract all embedded objects.

Hi! Does anybody know how can one retrieve a sound file embedded/inserted in
a pps/ppt file? It stands to reason that since I can hear it, it must be in
some temp memory somewhere, but where and how can I get to it?
Thanks in anticipation,

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PPT 2003
that you just created in PPT 2003? -

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide better content management tools for finding, EXPORTING, changing,
replacing, optimizing, deleting, etc. linked, embedded, inserted and native
content (without having to resort to workarounds VBA or 3rd party add-ins),
don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft
at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Perhaps I should've been more explicit: I received a ppt file which plays a
song during the show. How can I find and save the sound file, to play it
separatedly from the ppt file? Thanks again,

Open PowerPoint and open the presentation. Go to File > Save as Web Page
and give it a name and click OK. Then browse to the folder that is created
and locate the WAV file that was embedded but has now been extracted.

As I indicated in my first reply. Publish the presentation as a web page, and
PowerPoint will extract the wav file. Unless you only have the PowerPoint
viewer. Then you cannot extract the sound file.
