Sound failure in Photo Story

First glitch in 3 years of short stories, hitherto all unproblematic, with
sync'd sound tracks (music and voiceover) made into wmv's and then videos.
For this one I've re-edited the sound and renamed the sound file a few times.
The sound either doesn't play at all, or not where it should, whether on
preview or on the wmv. The title quickly gets changed (not by me!) in the
sound bar and in the wmv playback, to the title I'd given to an earlier
version which is no longer even on my PC! (Going along with this and changing
the name of the sound track to an earlier version doesn't help.) The track's'
been mixed in my usual programme, and other (irrelevant) sound tracks will
play normally on the story, from any selected picture. I've just spotted in
the folder where I store all my sound tracks (mp3's) a BAK file appear which
says only "PS3" and I can't open it to see if it's connected with the
problem.

Just a couple of guesses.

Could be a corrupted sound file.

Might be worth a try to uninstall/reinstall PS3.

Thanks, John, I've tried re-installing but it hasn't helped, but it DID make
me think of a simple test I could do - I first I made up a story with a
jumble of a dozen pictures, then I selected a frame for music, and put my
sound track anchor there. No sound. ThenI tried with a random music file.
Sound! So next I put the music file into my first story, which I should have
tried doing before... Sound! Perfect sound! Doesn't this mean the problem's
in the sound files I've been creating, junking, and then re-making and
re-naming? But what's caused the problem? And how does the Photo Story (and
WMP) remember their names? And what do I do next? Junk all the sound files
I've had involved in the story? Junk the story itself, and start over?

That's what I meant when I suggested "corrupted sound files".

Maybe you need a different audio editor or possibly just
use the music files as they are.

Maybe the freeware Audacity would be worth a try:

Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity Features
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features

Audacity Tutorials
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/tutorials.html

Good luck...

Going through a process of eliminations I decided the problem originated in the audio editor, so your suggestion hits the mark. I've followed this up and am now learning to use Audacity which you also mentioned. It looks and feels very serious and user-friendly! Many thanks.
