Hi John,

I think the issue may be caused by that the sound card driver is corrupted
or installed with wrong drivers.

I have checked the HP web site. There has many Kayak series computers.
Would you please tell me the detail model of the computer?

I think we can install the latest driver from the HP web site. That should
solve the problem.

Hi Steven,

Thanks for looking into this issue. I have HP Kayak XU/500 Serie 0341.
I followed the following steps-

a. Go to Control Panel => Add/Remove Hardware, click Next, and then select
"Add/Troubleshoot a device". Click Next.
b. After the Plug and Play searching process is finished, select "Add a new
device" from the top of the list, and then click Next.
c. Check the "Yes, search for new hardware", and then click Next.

At this point the Wizard shows up only "MEDIA" device needs to be installed.
I
point the drivers for it to a Sound Driver installation which I have
downloaded
from HP site. But Windows still complains about not being able to locate
drivers
for this MEDIA device.

Hi John,

I have checked the HP web site. The sound chipset is made by AD. It's the
AD1816. HP does not provide the driver for the Windows XP.

The Windows also does not includes the driver of the device.

We can try the driver at:

http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads11/17745.html

Note: it's the third party driver and may not has the Microsoft
certificate. You may encounter the issue with the driver. Therefore, AD
does not provide the driver individually, we only can try the driver.

If it does not work, I think you need to contact HP for the new driver or
purchase a new compatible sound card.
