for some reason my sound driver appears to have disappeared, however, when i look in the hardware section of sounds and audion devices in control panel it is there and is working fine

I am running xp on a TINY pc. with legacy audio drivers, audio codecs, and avance AC97 audio

Everytime i try to run a sound file it says i have no audio device or there is a problem with it. The day before this happened all was working fine

I have read of similar problems and am planning to reinstall audio drivers but ppl have been saying that this doesnt work, will i need to reformat hard drive because i had to a few weeks ago and it is the most annoying thing you have to do with your pc.

Had same problem two months ago..just reinstall the drivers..do not reformat
that's not the problem..its the drivers..even updated drivers messed me
up..use the cd labeled drivers you have.

i h8 to be annoying but i am new to all this could u give me a brief tutorial of how to do this

Do i just put cd in drive and install or do i need to go, and uninstall the existing drivers

If i need to uninstall the drivers is it just the legacy stuff that i mentioned before? or all of it

another problem, it wont let me do system restore it tells me to restart pc and try agian ive tried that but it still gives same error msgs

Go to trouble shooting under sounds and follow their advice for sounds..when
they ask for drivers disk..put in your (drivers) cd and correct drive its on
(E-F-H whatever) and follow what they say..it worked for me..one thing about
posting sound problems here..not many replies..I know been here asking...
plus read a lot of posts.

click start..you will see help support (click it)..type in sounds..then
follow the questions you will come to insert your disk after going a tad
into the questions.

I have came up with an error, sayin sumthing about my destination (D:\) not having hardare info what should i do?

Can I email u a screen print showim this?

The disk is called "TINY, system driver/software library" Is that the right disk or do i need a windows xp disk

I really need help i can only go so long without sound

im not sure whether my system driver disk actually contains the audio drivers that i need. I looked on the internet for the drivers but have no idea which is the right one to download. I let the disk autorun and there were no audio drivers listed what so ever which is why im doubting that they were on the disk

What should i do next? The steps you said were helpful but I got stuck when it said the disk didnt contain hardware infomation.

Without the disk you have to fine the makers of your sound card, go to their
web site and search for drivers.
Try this site: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

PS: Possible on a floppy disk also check what you have.

i am downloadin a file now but am not sure whether its the tight one

What kinnd of things can go wrong if it turns out not to be the right one but i try to use it anyway?

i have just re-installed, i think and it still says there are no audio devices in control panel.

Is it possible that i merely have a problem with the speakers and need to replace them?!

Oh do indeed check all your cable and speakers..hope that's the problem.
Sound problems are tricky. Sorry some advice did not work out so far.

If you followed the help/support trouble shooting for sounds step by step
and all is ok..but when you come to insert drivers disk..you really need to
have it then...you sure you can not do a system restore? Since it was
working ok just a few days ago.

Xp OS has a cd with a red label with (drivers) on it...that's what you
need.As stated before updated drivers failed with me which I downloaded from
the net...but the disk corrected the problem I had.

nope for some starnge reason it wont let me run system restore, when i try to it tells me to restart my computer and try again, i tried that and the error msg still appeared

Isnt there anyway u can just scrap sound and put it back

In the same way as reformatting hard drive, wipe it all out then re-build it?

i wasnt provided with an xp o/s disk, only a tiny system driver/software libary disk.

Everything was pre-installed, which is absolutely ridiculous, it means that no1 can reinstall their o/s without acquiring a disk from somewhere else.

Im asuming now, that the o/s disk is the one that should have the drivers i need on it, is that correct?

if speakers are not working correctly would it still say that there are no audio devices in control panel, if they were the only problem?

Because it cant be the speakers if that isnt true.
