a diff between xp and xp pro.I need advice and i need it in lay mans terms.I
have no sound device

Are you getting any startup sounds like beeps, etc.? If your PC was purchased
in the last couple of years you very likely have a soundcard installed. You
can
check here is you have one:
Rightclick My Computer>Properties>Hardware tab>Device Manager
Scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers and see if there is a small
plus (+) in front of it. Or a yellow question mark (?) on it. If you have
the
question mark it means there is a problem or it is not installed. Click it
and see if there are codecs/drivers listings with little sound icons in front
of them.
If there are, you have a soundcard installed. Next,
Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio>Sounds tab
Go down to Program Events and click an item with the sound icon in front of
it.
Then click the right arrow to test the sound. If nothing, then the drivers
are not
installed. You can also check here for information:
Repost if you either resolved it or are still having problems. :~)

Scroll down to "Where did my Sounds go?" and click the question mark.

Hi,thanks for posting.Did everything you suggested and no,it appears i have
no sound drivers installed....so i guess my question now is....how do i
install sound drivers?I will go to the link you gave me and have a look
there....thanks

Check the disks that came with your PC, one of them may be a utility or
installation disk for the drivers. Otherwise you'll need to find out the
manufacturer of your soundcard and go to their website to download them.
Drivers are free.
