I also have that problem. My sound card worked with XP,
but after I had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall XP,
it doesn't want to work. I have installed all the
drivers, but it doesn't want to recognize my devices,
which device manager reports no problems with. All the
devices are being used and mapped through, but no mixer
will load, as it reports there being no sound device.
Any ideas what might be needed?

Either your PC has a separate PCI soundcard or there is an onboard sound
chip as part of the motherboard.

You would need to get the correct drivers for it from either...

The soundcard manufacturer's website
or
The motherboard manufacturer's website

Since you don't tell us what option you have, it's almost impossible to tell
you where to go.... a good first stop is the website of the PC manufacturer
to see if they perhaps have the drivers or whether the specs of the PC are
available to tell you where to go to find the correct drivers.
