Anyone know of an app that can do sound detection ( i.e. trigger
recording )?
Ideally I'm looking for an app that can send email alerts on
detection, though I can probably work around the lack of such a
feature with AutoIt.

Cheers,

Please check if the NCH Tone Detector does what you need:

Woah!!! Excellent find!
It does EXACTLY what I want - and a bit more too!

Also picked up a copy of their nifty dictation playback
freeware....looks like it might be great for transcribing horn parts
from MP3s if I can rig up a foot pedal to act as a rewind button.

Other peeps might be interested in some of the freeware there too...

Express Scribe - Transcription Dictation Player
WavePad - Voice and Audio Editing Program
AMS Audio Masking System
NCH Tone Generator (Pocket PC Version Only)
Pocket Dictate
Vemail (Voice Messages by Email)
TypeCharge - Word Count and Typist Billing Tool
ToneDet - Tone Detector
Express Rip - CD Audio File Extractor
Express Burn - CD Recorder Software
Switch - Sound File Format Converter

Many thanks for the find!!

Cheers,

Glad I could help you. ;-) I was a few days off my computer. That's
why I answered a bit late. I have this program on disk for years and
thought on the sound of your problem that it *might* be the one, at
once.

It *is* the only tool of this kind I ever came across. (At least it
is the only one I remember...)
