Hi,
I have crackly sound when running a soundblaster 16 ISA, so I decided to
replace it with a Yamaha 724 sound card, which I found lying about.
The card is a PCI sound card. I unplugged the old sound blaster, and put the
yamaha in the PCI slot next to the slot where the old ISA card used to be.
Before I did this I uninstalled the old sound blaster in device manager in
XP.
When I started the machine the new hardware wizard attemped to install the
device, which it seemed to correctly recognise (yamaha sound card).
A message was then displayed, stating that 'problems have occured' and 'the
new hardware may not work properly'. This was the first sign of the problem.
The device manager properties state that the 'device cannot start' returning
code 10. Needless to say I get no sound.
Can anyone help with this?
Is it some sort of BIOS setting, needing changed due to the fact that the
previous card was ISA and the new one is PCI?
Or could it just be a broken sound card?
My config is as follows:
Jetway 993AN Rev 1 motherboard
Celeron 633 / 128 / 66 / 1.65v
64MB PC100 (SD RAM, I assume)
Sound Blaster 16 PCI
Geforce 2 MX
20 - 48x CDROM
Fujitsu 6GB HDD
*many* thanks!
