XP Home O/S. The programs I run say the sound card is
either not there or it is in use by something else, and I
know it is not because nothing is running I know about
that would be using it. I was told it is due to a bad xp
upgrade. I have no clue if it is that and if so what next
or if there is another issue I am missing. The systems
sound card worked before I installed a new one. The new
card is good, we know this from using it in another
system. Help??!!

If you install a separate soundcard you MUST disable the onboard sound in
the BIOS.

And try to install the separate soundcard in the PCI slot FURTHEST away from
the AGP slot.

Cari,
Thanks for the info, but I am not sure how to do what you
said. Could you explain it or is this a major technical
thing?
