I recently installed Windows XP into a old computer my
friend doesn't want. Everything is running perfect,
except his sound card isn't being detected, and as this
is the only place to connect my speakers, that means no
sound. Is there any program or utility I can use to
detect what card it is so I can download a driver?

Thanks in advance

Hello

Not really, what you need to find out is who is the card made
by, find that info out first and one would be able to better
help you or tell where to look for drivers. You may have to
open the box or maybe get the manual on the pc.

I tried using HWINFO like you suggested randwulf, while
in DOS, it detected the sound card as an ALS4000. I then
went on to search for the updated drivers, and installed
them. Now my sound is working perfectly, thanks for your
help everyone!

Simon:
Glad it helped.
