Is the Creative Audigy 5.1 24-bit soundcard compatible with Vista? Just
wanted to know. Thanks.

Best off checking the manufacturer's website. Or you could just install
Vista then run Windows Update and see if anything crops up :o)

Creative do have beta drivers for Vista for some of their soundcards. It
would be best to check directly with their website for your exact model of
soundcard.

The Creative beta drivers for Vista are only for build 5270, they fail
to install with February CTP.
You should look for kX Drivers (driverheaven.com if my memory is good),
even if I can't get the mixer to work (it says it did not detect the
soundcard), they work, I've 5.1 sound with my Audigy 2 ZS

Another thing with kX drivers, they invert front and rear speakers.
If it bothers you, just replug the cables :)
And, if you have like me a keyboard with +/- sound keys, to adjust
volume, don't use them! With my MS keyboard, if I touch these keys I
get a BSOD.
But well, you've sound, it's good enough for the moment, waiting for
creative working drivers!

Hmm, I'll hold off I think as I do have sound anyway with the SB Live!
being detected under native Vista.

Can I assume that no one else running a Creative SB Live device has sound?

I used to use a Soundblaster Live! 5.1 until the microphone jack quit
working properly - it did the first two years. (It would always get very
staticy and cut out.) The Audigy to me is the identical card only the
problem seems fixed. It's also 24-bit. (Don't know if the SB Live! was.)
I guess I'll have to find out if Vista will cooperate or not. If your SB
Live! works right off the bat, I'll just reinstall my old SB Live! if that's
what it takes to get sound. (Even though the microphone doesn't work.)

It does indeed, it will be interesting to see if it works for you as well.
