I'm looking for a PCI sound board that also works in DOS.
Nothing extravagent. Similar to the old Soundblasters.
Thanks for any pointers.

You write "also works in DOS", but DOS in addition to what
else? The problem with many cards old enough that they have
DOS drivers, may be that they don't also have newer drivers
developed for XP, or Vista. In some cases MS may have
provided minimal funcitonality drivers for these (for
example Aureal Vortex/Vortex2/etc) cards which do have DOS
drivers, but the cards and drivers are a bit harder to find
today, these haven't been produced for several years now.
Another option are cards based around CMI8738 chipset, and
perhaps other CMI chipsets. For example,
http://www.txmicro.com/4-Channel-PCI-Sound-Card-Retail-p-3286.html
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829120102
they list no DOS support, but since I have a DOS driver for
8738, I'm fairly sure it does support DOS.
C-Media Driver download page,

I have no idea if more than 2 channels are supported in DOS,
but then I doubt most DOS apps support more than 2 either.
