Sound blaster audigy 2

First off my system uses an Asus motherboard. And I am running WIndows
XP professional. I recently bought a Audigy 2 OEM version sound card.
I installed it and all I get is jumbled noises when theres supposed to
be sound.. also it still says theres an unknown PCI-Input device not
installed, even though it is installed. Also when the card is
connected to any pci slot I cant reboot my computer!( I can shutdown
fine but when I reboot it just hangs..) I then installed the card on
another system which was also running windows xp pro AND IT WORKED
FINE! The only difference I could think of was that my machine has an
Nvidia Video Card and an Asus Motherboard, and my chip has
hyperthreading technology. SO... does anyone know how to fix this
problem.... is the card broken? I dont think so... is there a way to
check if my pci slots are broken or something.. any help would be
great.

If your mobo has onboard sound make sure you disabled it via jumpers
and/or BIOS.

You could try an old PCI graphics card to check the PCI slots if you
think they really are bad, no video would be a sure sign the board has
problems. ;p

FWIW, I have an Asus A7N8X/WinXP Pro/Audigy2 OEM setup, no problems with
a Nvidia Ti4200 or ATI 9800 Pro video card on this system.

Make sure you have the onboard audio shut off in the bios.
 
Ohhh that may be the problem.... How do i disable it via the jumpers? Where
is it located on the motherboard and how do i disable it?

It should be a setting in the bios. You never mentioned which
motherboard you had so it's hard to say where it is. Disable it via the
bios though, don't look for any jumpers.
 
There is a reported glitch with the Audigy2 driver. Uninstall the Audigy2
driver that you have, reboot, go into your motherboard's BIOS and turn OFF
the HyperThreading, install the Audigy 2 driver, reboot, go into your BIOS
and turn HyperThreading back on. The sound should now work.

Tried that.. doesnt work... i have a p4s800
