Sound becomes metallic when editing in WMM 2

Hi.

New in video editing, I did a capture from a JVC GR-DX28E with Firewire
in WMM 2, using DV-AVI format.

When watching the .AVI with Win Media Player, sounds great.

But, when I drag and drop the .AVI on the timeline and when I watch the
video now, the sound becomes metallic.

When importing the sound from the video in Audition, before editing in
WMM, the spectral analysis shows that the high frequencies are between
12 and 14 KHz. The sound is good.

But, after editing in WMM2 and writing in DV-AVI format, the spectral
analysis shows that the high frequencies are between 20 and 22 KHz
(with a cut at 16 KHz) !

In WMM options, I deactivated all codecs... but no results.

Any idea ?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Eric;
Have you expanded the Video Selection on the timline, so that you can see
the audio waveform?
Check there and make sure that the volume is not too high (clipping occurs)
or too low that it is not heard properly.
You can adjust the volume of the sound either by right clicking the audio
waveform, or choosing the volume icon slightly above, and to the left of the
timeline.

Hope that helps:
Jeff

I have the same problem. As soon as I add a clip to the timeline, the audio
gets very tinny and I can't find anywhere in the program to adjust the
treble/bass, etc.

I also have the same problem. Pulling my hair out to find a solution!!!!!! Imported video from Canon Ixus 50 (avi format) sounds fine when viewed in the collection pane of MM but once it is dragged into the timeline, sound is terrible, metallic, high pitched with faint hissing. Changine volume in audio timeline doesn't make any difference. Only when wmv is saved as low quality dial-up or ISDN, does the sound quality improve. But then video quality is useless. Read about 12-bit/16-bit compatability problems but can't adjust this on camera.

I've scoured the net for an answer to no avail. Please help!

Thanks for getting back to me but no joy, I'm afraid!

Adding an effect has made no difference. I had previously tried www.papajohn.org > problems Solving > Audio issues but to no avail!

Still searching for an answer.
