SOS - Rename remote hosts domain

Had a misconfigured server where the FQDN was
server.domain.com giving a full computer name of
server.server.domain.com.

I added a NT40 domain, upgraded to W2k, and fixed the FQDN
to domain.com.

Is there an easy way to convert the domain on the remote
hosts from server.domain.com to domain.com without
disjoining and rejoining?

Is there a way to relink user profiles on the host if the
domain has to be dropped and then reset.
