Hi,

Anybody knows a way or a utility (and not some expensive profesional
program) to sort directories and files on the HD ? (and not just simply
in Explorer which only organises the display, not the files!). There
used to be lots of such utilities before Windows but now,
defragmentation programs do not offer such simple option and I like to
have my HD organised my way and not some other.

Thanks

O&O Defrag offers sorting by name. Not sure why you'd want that though
since it slows down the boot time.

Well, boot time is significant only...at boot time which means not very
often and the difference made by Windows in reordering the file can only
be of a few seconds. Furthermore, boot time is probably mostly
influenced by the files in the prefetch directory, so sorting those
files cannot hurt a lot, can it?

Why do I like to sort my own way? Mostly because it makes a number of
things easier in a number of programs that display directories and files
in the order they physically are on the HD while they are analysed.

Thanks for the tip about O&O which I did not know but I had in a mind a
simpler and much less expensive alternative, if one exists?
