I use OL 2003. Among my Contacts, I find that two numbers associated with
them are more important than their company or their Job Title. Therefore I
have inserted one of these numbers into each of these fields. I now would
like to setup a special "View" of my contacts which sorts by one of these
fields. The variable ranges from 10 to 1650, and it is kept in the Job
Title field. When I tell OL to sort by that field it gives me two options
(ascending or descending). These are both interpreted alphabetically, since
OL is expecting the field to be filled with a word or phrase to describe the
person's Job Title. Since it is interpreted alphabetically, the number 10
and 1000 are considered as close to the same value and 90 is considered much
larger.
Is there a way to get either OL in general or the portion dealing with the
custom view to consider the Job Title field as a numeric figure?
If the answer to that is no, could someone suggest a workaround? I have put
these 2 numbers on the general screen because they are so important.
