I want to Sort or Group a folder containing *.AVI files by the date the
movie clips were taken. I've tried to sort/group by all the date
options - and either they don't work or no information shows up in the
column. I've Googled and it seems that other people are having the
same problem. I wonder if anyone reading this has a solution. Please
don't tell me to experiment with the variables. I'm pulling my hair
out as it is. There are a TON of variables and, so far, I haven't
found one that works. By the way, how do you put information INTO most
of those variables (Edit them)? Do you need special software?

PS: I don't know what Stacking is - I haven't gotten that far yet.

Consider doing this: right click in a blank area of the file pane,
choose Sort by, and click on More... at the bottom of the menu. Scroll
down far enough and you'll see Date taken.

Thanks - tried that. Date Taken returns a blank column. Any other
suggestions?

No, sorry.

It looked OK here: the column wasn't blank and looked correct, i.e. it
jibed with my (rather vague) memory of the history.

Unfortunately, sorting by date taken was the same as sorting by name
(not surprisingly), so my actual sorting test was probably
inconclusive.

You could try downloading a free metadata editor and adding the correct
values manually, but I'm not sadistic enough to suggest that as a
serious alternative :-)
