how can i sort one coloum of hilighted cells and information to the left and right

Select all columns you wish to sort together before Data>Sort.

Select the one column and when Excel offers to expand the range, say NO and
stay with the single selection. This can seriously screw up data if you
neglect to undo before saving.

here's my delim

i have three rows of coloum indentitys above the coloum('s) to be sorte

when i sort, the three row drop to the bottom of the pag

if i state that i have a header

the top row stays and rows 2 and 3 drop
