Outlook used to sort the address book using the surname first. Outlook 2003
no longer does this and, despite searching, I cannot find how to do this. I
could do it manually but this would take forever - any suggestions?

Change that setting here: Tools menu > Email accounts > View/Change existing
directories/address books > Click Next > Highlight Outlook Address Book >
Click Change. Set the sort in that dialog. I think you want the "File As"
sort
