Sort Question on unsorted fields

Team,

I have a query which has a numerical field sorted, but I am wondering on
if anyone knows on what basis the other fields are linked to the sort
field. For example, if I have 10 Division IDs being sorted with 2 other
fields in the query (unsorted) which contain text, how are these
arranged/linked with the sort field?

I am asking because I ran a report 2 months ago with the above query
structure, but a rerun of the same report today results in a different
arrangement of the text fields. I would rather like to run the report
today with the same arrangement of text fields as before.

TIA

Andrew

Sorting in reports is best accomplished with the Sorting and Grouping dialog
in report design. Any order other than one you specify can assumed to be
random.

Dianne,

I think you've missed the question - I am wondering on what basis
sorting of subsequent unsorted fields is done by Access. The report is
sorted as you suggested, but I'm still wondering how Access arranges the
field order for those which are not sorted. Are there system based
hidden fields or similar?

Andrew

IF you don't specify a sort order for the subsequent fields, then you might as
well consider the order to be random.

Thanks John,

Thats what I thought.
