Sort Contacts by Last Name.

I use both Outlook 2002 and 2003. When I create an email
message, I want to click on the "TO" box and type
in "SM", for example, to find my recepient John Smith.
However, the address book is looking for the first
name rather than the last name. So, to find him, I have
to type "JO..." to get John Smith. How can I make the
address book look for last names instead of first names?
I will appreciate advice.
 
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there

I have done what you suggeted. However, the Contacts are
now mixed. When I try to send an email to some Contacts,
some appear in Last Name, First Name order, (Smith,
John), which is what I want. But others appear in First
Name, Last Name order (Mary Jones). In Contacts itself,
all the entries are correct, that is, all first names and
all last names are in their right places. But some get
mixed up when I try to find them through the "TO" box of
an email message. I will appreciate further advice.

Examine your Contacts' File As fields more closely, then. If you have in
fact set the Outlook Address Book to sort by the File As field, that is what
it will do.
