Sorry. my first post gave an error message after I hit the send button that
indicated there was a problem - try again later. I did, and both posts
appeared. I tried to delet it but help says:

"When you click Send, your message goes out to a network of public servers
that Microsoft has no control over, and there is no way to delete, recall, or
revise your message."

Well, now you know.

Yep.

Try using a news client, such as Forte Agent, Thunderbird, or even Outlook
Express, rather than the pretty clunky web interface to the newsgroups. It's
a lot easier to do nearly everything that way. You can mark messages to be
watched, filter the views so you can see replies to your posts easily, and
search.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required.

The following is from a post by MVP Malke ...

I've had double-posts happen to me the last couple days because it said my
original posting didn't work like yours. No worries Lee.

That's because you are also using the dreadful web interface. Try a real
newsreader. :-)

Lanwench,

This is occurring with NNTP clients as well as the web interface.

In my case, using Outlook Express, the post appears in the header list
momentarily, then is rendered with strikethrough text and the warning
"Message has been deleted from server." Sometimes it will reappear later,
sometimes not; regardless of whether I post again.

Interesting to hear; I haven't had any such problems on my own. I'm using
msnews.microsoft.com as my NNTP server, for what it's worth. All the double
posts I've seen in the past several days (and there have been a gazillion)
have been from the web interface.

I post to NNTP with Outlook Express and have not encountered this problem.

Lanwench,

I too am using msnews.microsoft.com as my NNTP server. I
have not seen this behaviour in the privatenews.microsoft.com
groups.

As for all the double posts you've seen originating from the
web interface, I cannot speak to that, and am not questioning
your observations, just filling you in on my own. This has
happened to me in the SBS and several security newsgroups. It's
an annoyance, as I am never certain if a post will actually
appear. At one point I considered using the web interface
(shudder) until I became aware that the issue seems to be worse
there.
