Any comments on what I should be paying for SAV licenses? Last year I paid
£31.00 each for 26 x SAV Connect and this year it looks like they want to
charge me £115.00. I know there are changes to the way Sophos deliver
updates but not sure that would account for the jump in the price.

TIA

That is waaay to much of your IT budget spent on a desktop antivirus
solution.

Conversion based on XE.com rates today...
168.526 EUR
220.323 USD

per license?

If this is true you are being ripped off. F-Secure, Nod32, Kaspersky
are all a lot cheaper for bulk licensing and if you ask me are better
antivirus products. So what if Sophos do not send out a CD anymore.
Shouldn't this make it cheaper?

I haven't paid £115 as this is way too high ... I am not sure what the
reseller is up to with this jump in price. I'll find out on Monday.

Whichever product is selected it has to be distributed to a small network of
machines which have no access (deliberate) to the internet. Sophos's EM
manager does this for me at the moment. I am not sure what other products
would be able to do this - i.e. central machine distributing updates etc to
networked W98 and XP machines.

The story gets more interesting ... it seems this reseller is using
'incentives' - in this case an Apple iPod - to bump the cost of the
licenses. This is not clear in the sales talk though. Anyone else had
problems like this? I wont mention the name of the reseller.

why not? if someone is trying to rip people off (and it certainly sounds
that way) they should be named and shamed...

frankly, i don't see how secretly making customers buy ipods when they
purchase an anti-virus license could be much of a legitimate incentive...

I am currently talking with Sophos and the reseller ... I dont want to be
presumptive in naming names but depending on the outcome I will name names,
if only to warn against this sort of practice.

Sophos have been extremely helpful in this matter although it remains
between myself and the reseller.

26*115 ? That's about 3 grand. We get unlimited nodes for that,
on an educational licence - all platforms. I suggest you look
into a volume licence instead of N*individual

We dumped Vet here when CA bought it and put the price up by an
order of magnitude (near enough).

McAfee have tools for that.
I guess most major players do.
Our network is so bloody awful I always wrote my own stuff to
distribute Sophos in the past, though we're on EM now, as their
utilities tended to get a bit flaky over our topology.

Although our licence is under a CHEST deal, we go direct to
Sophos. Talk to them.

Sophos only market thru resellers in the UK. Having spoken to them their
suggested retail price per license is £33.00

As I thought the reseller I used is 'having a laugh' trying to charge 115, I
have found others who charge a lot less. Sophos themselves are dismayed at
this resellers tactics and have promised to find out what the heck is going
on.

Whatever, appreciate you taking the time to respond!
