Kimmy

This is a hard one.. I am trying to put together my own
web server and Exchange server on the same machine. I can
figure out how to do one or the other but not both.

Setup:
1) DC is noc.xyz.com
2) Registered domain name is xyz.com
3) I asked register.com to point DNS to my static IP
4) (WEBSERVER)Everything works great when people go to
xyz.com my IIS picks it up the port goes into my firewall
and walla! It works fine.
5) Problem while putting on active directory on to my
machine (noc) I DO NOT SET UP DNS. If I do setup DNS to
xyz.com with forward and reverse lookup zones my xyz.com
page will not work. WHY WHY WHY???.. I need to setup DNS
so that I can setup my exchange server/mx records that
need to point to my noc.xyz.com
6) Get really mad and put machine in the wash machine.

HELP HELP HELP

easiet way is ask them to do a mx record for you since they are already
doing your dns name........

I am kinda with you....
but,

How will my Exchange server know where to go for the mx
record? If I have no DNS setup?
I will not be able to add a mx record?

in xchange, there is an option to tell the smtp virtual insatnce to use an
external dns server.. use your isps..

You've only ever heard that word spoken, haven't you ? (-:

It's spelled "voilà".

Because you didn't perform a search of the back messages in this
newsgroup before posting and didn't see the answer given at least
3 times in the last 10 days alone. Here it is again.
