Sony TRV 950 as codec

Using WMM I can use the Sony as a "pass thru" codec with my Canon Hi-8
as source provided that I select "Portions of Cassette" in WMM,
otherwise I get the contents of the MiniDV cassette over the Firewire.
If I try to use any of the Cyberlink programs without the MiniDV
cassette in the Sony the capture halts with an insert cassette error
message. Cyberlink support has not been able to give me a "work around"
as yet.

I wrote a similar question yesterday. My problem is the opposite. I have a
Sony Hi8 linked to my Canon DV using the DV pass through. When I open WMM, it
tells me to insert a DV but the manual instructions explicitly say to not
have a DV loaded. When I try with a blank DV loaded, WMM captures the blank
DV, not the Sony Hi8. What do you suggest?

I think if you read my post carefully viz:Using WMM I can use the Sony

select "Portions of Cassette" in WMM, then the trick is to have the
cassette inserted in the DV camera but in WMM capture options select
"partial cassette", at least that works on my Sony TRV 950. However WMM
does not seem to have the menu and chapter generating capability that
the Cyberlink programs have.

Richard - Thank you for the additional detail. I thought I tried the Portions
option and it still captured the blank of the DV. I'll try it again though.
