Sony GDM-F500 focus problem?

I found some old (c.03/2000) threads in this group on focus and
convergence issues with this monitor... wondered if anyone has any
experience with it. I have one that I bought about a little over a year
ago ($200 used in prime condition!) and it's recently developed a focus
issue, where it starts up crisp and sharp corner-to-corner, but soon the
focus goes out of whack. If I power it off for about 30 seconds and
then back on, it's clean again for a little while, then the focus just
slips out again... not too far, but far enough that it's hard to read at
anything higher than about 1024x768.

Heh. Were the posts from me? My F500 went blurry. I'd call Sony and
see what your options are. It cost me like $350 to get mine replaced
with a refurbished F500R, which I have been very satisfied-with for
the past few years.

Neat. I don't think I could justify another $350 (no doubt $US) right
now - especially since I could get a brand-new 19" LCD for about the
same price (over CDN$500), or even a cheap 20"/21".

I did a search on Sony's site and got one hit on "GDMF500" - a virus
warning. Gee...

Yeah, it would be hard to justify fooling-around with the behemoth at
this point in time. When I sent mine back it was almost 3 years ago,
and the alternatives were not as appealing.

They do have an area for discontinued items, with manuals, etc...

Yah, I left them an email... the reply was a rather patronizing apology
and link to a FAQ item informing me that the Reset button wouldn't work
if the function lock was enabled, with directions on how to disable the
function lock.

Useless gits.
