I have a Sony DVD - RW DRX-500UL. Windows XP only recognizes it as a
CD -Rom. I have installed Windows XP 1a service pack but it still will not
recognize the drive correctly. Can someone help.

Hey Lloyd,

I am guessing you installed your new DVD drive AFTER you
installed XP. You should not depend on the XP Service
pack (SP) to install drivers for your device. You need
the correct driver to install the hardware (DVD). Since
XP has found the device, it has loaded the driver
it "thinks" will work with the device. To fix this, you
either install the driver that came with the DVD device.
If there was none, then you should go to the manufactures
site to look for the appropriate drivers. If these are
unsuccessful, you can go to www.google.com and type in
your devices name (Sony DVD - RW DRX-500UL) as well as
the word driver: example

Sony DVD - RW DRX-500UL driver
Sony DVDRW DRX-500UL driver
Sony DVD - RW DRX-500UL XP driver

I hope this helps, good luck.

anonymous,
I spent about 2 hours looking for a driver but no luck. Just firmware
upgrades. I tried that and can not find my drive.
