I have recently changed to XP. On plugging the camera
into the USB port and turning it on it was recognised
and drivers loaded. The message indicated the system was
ready to use. The camera does not show up as a removeable
disk as it should. The device manager indicated the USB
device Sony DSC id functioning correctly. What can be
done to correct this fault

Make sure you have a memory stick with pictures on it in your camera.
Connect the camera to the computer. Power the camera on. Wait 10 seconds or
so for XP to recognized it. You should hear some beeping sounds and then the
four red dots on your LCD should change to white indicating that the
connection is now made. After this, open My Computer and Sony Memory Stick
should be listed under Devices with removable storage.
If the connection is not made as given above, turn camera and computer off.
Turn camera on and then computer on. XP should recognize it and install it
again.

See my reply to your previous posting. Now it may be that
you need the latest version of the driver from SONY. The
driver you installed may not be sufficient for WINXP,
especially if you installed it from the CDROM that came
with the camera originally.

Did you upgrade from a previous version of Windows to
WINXP? This might have something to do with it. Also, you
should check the motherboard setup within the BIOS
utility to enable motherboard's support for all versions
of USB, not just version 2.0.

I also have this camera and it works very well on my
system.
