The camera has been installed and shows a connection as
decribed with the red dots initially changing to white
dots but it does not show up as a removeable disk in My
Computer

When you open My Computer the left side panel has System Tasks displayed.
Change this view to Folders by clicking on Folders on the top bar. See if
your camera is listed under this display. If not, leave the camera on, open
the door and slide the ms out and then back in. See if this makes it on the
list.

There is also a "fix" from Microsoft but I don't know if it applies in your
case:

I have the same camera. It sounds like WINXP has detected
the device, but does not know how to talk to it, becuase
the proper driver may not have been installed. Be sure
that you have installed the device driver for the camera.
If you do not have it, you can download it from the SONY
support website, or run a google search and type in DSC
S70 drivers, or something similar.

You cannot simply connect the camera to the computer
becuase it is a USB device. You must also have the driver
installed so that XP can register it as a drive in My
computer. Then you'll be home free.
