Mark

I have a Compaq Presario X1010 with 1.3 GHZ CPU and 60 MB Hard Drive with XP
Home.

I am able to capture a video in avi format to my hard drive, using I-Link
(Firewire), but when I play back the captured video on my hard drive using
windows media player, it plays back choppy, as if the computer is too slow
or frames were dropped during capture. I have defragged my hard drive and
turned off all other applications, but still no improvement.

Also, when I attempt to send the captured video back to my Sony DCR-TRV460
camcorder in playback setting, I get a blank screen and no sound on the tape
in my camcorder and no video on the LCD screen even though the camcorder
appears to be recording. Also, the camcorder does not stop recording at the
end of the movie clip, but just keeps recording with a blank screen and no
sound.

Any suggestions on what my problem may be?

Does the TRV460 camcorder permit "DV in" using firewire (DV in and a red dot
are indicated on the LCD panel while recording)?

Should I be using software other than moviemaker 2 for capture to hard drive
or sending movie back to the camcorder?

Should I be using software other than Windows Media Player for playing avi
movies?

Thank you

Mark,

I also have a TRV-460 and I have no problems with MM2 on
import through Firewire. I have not tried sending back to
camcorder so I can't help you there. Sorry. But I have
made several DVDs and the sound is fine. As for playback
with Media Player, make sure you've updated to version 9.
Ver 8 comes preloaded with XP and apparently doesn't have
the codecs for viewing properly. There are others here who
have more info on codecs.

Yes, my TRV460 does it. It does have to be in the "DV In" mode like you
indicated.

I almost always use WinDV to transfer from my camcorder to my PC and to
transfer from my PC to my camcorder. You can get WinDV (free, small) at:
http://windv.mourek.cz/

(I don't think I have ever tried to transfer from my PC to my camcorder with
anything other than WinDV)

I use Window Media Play version 9 all the time to play avi files.

I'm not sure what your problem may be but you said you had a "60 MB Hard
Drive" which would definitely be your problem. I assume you meant GB.
