Sony CDRW CRX230ES

I have just intalled Windows Vista Home Premium. I am still running XP on a
dual boot system. This device works perfectly on XP but I get this message
in device manager in Vista: Windows was able to successfully install device
driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried
to run. The problem code is 10.

Help!!

The following link may provide a solution. Follow the instructions on the
following Microsoft article to remove upper and lower filters:

Sometimes this solution works, but who knows until you try it. Another
approach is to uninstall the drive in Device Manager (under its Properties)
and reboot to see whether Windows fixes the issue when it reboots. Some
burner programs, such as Nero and/or iTunes/iPod have been known to cause the
problem you're having. Note in the Microsoft article that you may need to
reinstall a burner program, if that's what's causing the problem. Post back
on the results.
 
Tried to uninstall. On restart Vista told me that it could not properly
install drivers. When I went to regedit to follow procedure in Article
929461, the terms "upper filters" and "lower filters" do not appear in the
right pane.

Device manager still says: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Another Microsoft Knowledge Base articles provides the following:

Code 10

If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string
appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry
string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you
receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Recommended resolution

Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this
device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to
start the Troubleshooting Wizard.
 
This error usually means that the driver for this hardware is not compatible with your installation(Vista). Go to the Sony site and search for a driver (probably a new one or an Updated one) for you CDRW that is compatible with XP and Vista. Also check your BIOS if your CDRW is set for default on boot.
 
No luck. There is no Fail Reason String in right pane of registry. Updating
driver doesn't work nor any of the methods mentioned and tried so far. Still
working perfectly well in XP.
