I have mislaid my sony installation cd and cannot set up my camera to download onto my hard drive..Any help would be appreciated

If it's video you want to download then use a firewire cable to a firewire
connection on the pc, sony call this i-link and it's also known as ieee1394.
Open up movie maker and folow the instructions. If you don't have XP, (or
ME) then you won't have MM installed and you'll need other software.
If it's stills, use the usb cable and windows explorer to copy the stills
across.
If you want to use usb for video, good luck, but you'll need the
installation cd for the programme with which to do it. Could try sony's site
to see if they have a download. Be aware the quality is very poor compared
to firewire.

To check if you have 1394 connection.
Start
control panel
system
hardware
device manager
In the list you should see
ieee1394 bus host controller
or something very similar.
This means you have a firewire connection on the pc, next we need to find
it.

The first picture shows a 6 pin port.This is what most pc's have, although
laptops and cameras have a 4 pin port. which can be seen by looking at
picture 4.
Picture 2 shows the difference in how the cable looks for 6 - 4 pins.
Click on the pictures and you may get larger versions.
If you have a firewire port and then can locate it, it's just a matter of
buying teh correct cable to match the ports on the pc and the cam. Most good
pc shops or camera ones will do these leads, also easily available on the
net.

don't understand how I connect to the port required to make it work (ieee
1394 ) I am using a hub to make it easy for me to use various devices so I
tried using the USB option in the programme but it runs for a moment and
