Sony AIT Drive Compression Problem

I'm using Win2k Advanced Server and for some reason, even
though I have ticked the Use Hardware Compression box for
all the backup jobs I have scheduled, the backup falls
over when the total amount of data to be backed up
exceeds 45Gb (I have a Sony AIT drive 35Gb Native, 91Gb
Compressed).

I am assuming Windows is calculating the compression
ration wrong, or ignoring the hardware compression
completely.

I have applied Win2k Service Pack 4, but still with no
luck. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Mike.

Are you using ntbackup or another backup software?
Can you backup successfully taking hardware compression out of the equation?
What is the error? Any event id's logged?
Has the firmware and driver been updated for the hardware?

Make sure that you do not have the backup applications software compression
enabled also.

Hi,

We are using NTBackup with Hardware Compression ticked on
every backup job.
It starts backing up and just stops without writing
anything to the log file. It looks like the tape is full
as it displays a message box asking for another tape to
be inserted.
We have looked on the Sony AIT website and it looks like
there may need to be some jumper settings altered on the
drive itself to stop the Host controlling whether
compression is enabled or not. We are planning to do this
today, so I'll post with the results.

Thanks,

Mike.
