Can anyone help me, I have a large movie edited in
Windows Movie maker 2 (92 minutes) and MyDVd will only
convert and make a 60 minutes DVD Disk. Using a 4.7GB
DVD-R disk at 60 mins input to convert it says disk full.
How can I get over this problem please?

"Burn" the DVD to your hard drive using MyDVD, then use DVD Shrink to
reduce its size so it will fit on a 4.7GB DVD (technically 4.38GB).

Bob,

I have been searching for tools to back up some DVDs such
AnyDVD and Clone DVD. Apparently DVD shrink does this as
well for free. Since it appears you use DVD shrink, I was
wondering if there were any problems using MyDVD as the
burning software. Besides back ups I have and will have
more movies over an hour to 'shrink' and I bought my
burner that came with MyDVD because so many people
(including PapaJohn) have spoke highly of MyDVD. DVD
Shrink has integrated Nero control from what I read, but
just wanted confirmation that any commercial DVD burning
software (ie MyDVD) will work after shrinking or backing
up.

Thanks,
Steve

No. That is not necessarily true. MyDVD is really not
"burning" software -- it is "authoring" software. I don't
use MyDVD anymore, but I don't think it has the capability
to burn a DVD from VOB & IFO files on your hard drive. I
think it can only burn DVDs created by my MyDVD.

Many DVD authoring programs allow you to import the video
from a DVD backed up on your hard drive. But I'm not sure
if MyDVD can even do that.

I know you probably don't want to spend any more money,
but I suggest giving Nero a try. Nero 6 Ultra is a great
suite of tools, including the best (IMO) buring software,
and decent video editing and DVD authoring applications.

So your recommendation to Rock was to use MyDVD to burn
to HD then to shrink with DVD Shrink. Then what? Burn
back with MyDVD or with something else like Nero?

Thanks for the response. New to DVD burning and MyDVD.

Yes, I'd use something like Nero to burn the
DVD once it was created on the hard drive
by DVD Shrink. That is in fact how I do it.

Why not just save the movie in a lower bit rate than DV-
AVI and use MyDVD to then burn it? Wouldn't this have the
same basic result as DVD Shrink?

No. Whatever the input format or bit-rate, MyDVD decodes it, and then
encodes it to MPEG-2 format using its own bit-rate. So the size of the
MyDVD output video is simply a function of the length of the video.

Also, all versions of MyDVD except for 5.0 Deluxe (or Plus, or whatever
it's called), output uncompressed PCM audio, which further limits length
of a video that will fit on a DVD. MyDVD 5.0 Deluxe compresses the
audio in AC3 format, so you can fit longer videos on a DVD. Other DVD
authoring programs also use AC3.
