I have a Creative sound card and i'm using Windows XP Professional (service
Pack 2).All of a sudden, now when I try to open any type of audio file, the
file plays but yet I can't hear anything. All the connections are fine and
I've tried everything suggested by Windows Help and Dell's (my PC's
manufacturer) user guide but still nothing has changed. The strangest part is
that I haven't changed any settings, installed anything new or uninstalled
anything yet this suddenly occured. Can anyone give me any clues what might
be causing this and how can I fix it?

If you are certain that all plugs are plugged into the proper jacks, and
the speaker volumn is turn up both on the computer and on the speakers. Had
you plugged in headphones to the speakers? if so that jack when headphones
are plugged in SHUT OFF the speakers. That jack could be faulty if the
headphones were plugged in but are no longer plugged in.
I would then start with the NEXT step and that would be to open the
computer and be certain that the Sound Card is properly seated in to the Card
Slot, it may have worked loose and this is somehwhat common. Next I would go
to the Creative Utilities and run the Creative Diagostics, and use Creative
Applications to seek thee problem, IF this still doesn't solve the problem, I
would then UNINSTALL the sound Card Software, ReBOOT and reinstall it and
then Re Boot AGain.
Good Luck
