I have winXP home. There was a problem with power in the building everyhing
went suddenly black. At that moment Windows was working, windows media
player exactly. When power came back, there was no sound at windows media
player. I did a system restore to an earlier point. But still something is
wrong. I can not open Help and Support and I can not open System restore
again. They just do not open. Also I have a problem opening office files. A
window comes up that the file can not be found. After clicking OK for 5-6
times then the file opens. I can understand there is a problem with windows
after the power failure but I don't know what to do. And the worst I don't
have the winXP cd.
What should I do, buy WindowsXP again and reinstall it? If that is a
solution do I reinstall it over the excisting XP with problems. I am afraid
that if I reinstall XP I will have problems since I also do not have the cds
with all my drivers. (Generally all my pc cd drivers and OS is lost).
I really need some advise. What should I do?
Thanks

The operating system could have been damaged and/or some hardware could
have been damaged. There is no way for us to tell from a newsgroup
post. In order to fix things yourself, you would need an XP disk or at
least a Recovery Disk if you machine is OEM.

You need to determine that the hardware is good first. There is no point
in attempting a software solution (repair/install of Windows) on faulty
hardware. If you can't do hardware diagnosis yourself, take the machine
to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of
BigStoreUSA). After you get the computer fixed, buy an Uninterruptible
Power Supply.

Hi Dmitris

Can you claim off the power company for a repair, or you do you have some
household insurance you could claim off?
