Sometimes can't send emails from motels

No problem sending emails from home, McD's wifi, Starbucks, etc. but can't
send from some motels. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You need to check with each motel you have an issue with. For example: You
may be using port 25 for sending, but the motel uses port 587. Check with
them.

-- I changed to 587 but it still didn't work. I have asked some of the
motel personel in the past and most don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Port 587 was just an example and the port needed at the motel may not work
at home. 2525 is another WAG. Best bet. Next time you're at a motel, look
for someone else carrying around a laptop that's working and ask them.
Your ISP can probably give you a list of acceptable ports to use and match
them with the motels.

Looks like you are running into a port 25 block, but I can't say for sure
until you post the complete error message.
It really has nothing to do with the port the hotel uses. It has everything
to do with the port number of the SMPT server you are using to send.
Ask the provider of your mail server if they support a port other than 25.
If they don't, the remaining workarounds when sending away from home
are as follows:

1. Use webmail for sending (via your browser).
2. If you frequently send from multiple locations, get a free Gmail account,
configure it for POP access, set it up in Windows Mail, and use that for
your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked
like port 25 is.

Here are the messages:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number:

That's not a port 25 blocking error.
Try this: make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

If no improvement, change port 25 to port 587. You can make that
change after going to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties,
Advanced.

You don't have to wait until you get to a hotel where it doesn't work.
If the setting changes I recommended will correct the problem,
they will work everywhere. Try the two changes, one at a time, in the
order I gave them.
If you get a new error message, post it here for my analysis.

LEKlein.com is not your ISP. As such, your home ISP will block
your use of any port 25 SMTP server other than their own.
For an explanation of this anti-spamming policy, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

The latest error message indicates that the server mail.leklein.com
doesn't support port 587. To send from home, you will have to
substitute your home ISP's SMTP server. If you need help with that,
let us know who your home ISP is. If you also do much sending away
from home (on a laptop), let us know, and we can provide a different
workaround.

until you post the complete error message.

No problem sending emails from home, McD's wifi, Starbucks, etc. but can't
send from some motels. Any suggestions? Thanks.
