sometimes boot failure

I have a new system with WinXP pro sp2...and this is my first go around with
XP. I moved an Adaptec 2930 scsi card from my old Win98 system into the new
box and attached a Castlewood Orb--a removable hard drive similar to the old
Iomega Jaz.

The system recognizes the Orb and functions fine with it...mostly..but every
now and again boot up will fail right at the point where the system needs to
"see" the Orb drive. A quick reset will boot the system into windows with
the Orb recognzed and working fine. So far, every time.

However, I'd like to eliminate the hang on boot. Any ideas?
