We are running MS DNS server in Windows NT 4.0 SP6 . The DNS
server is behind a firewall. All of our systems are using
this server as the only DNS server. We are experiencing
an issue happen occasionally.
Every once in a while, a particular web site such as www.hotmail.com
or www.msn.com will not be resolved at all when using our DNS server,
it was working a minute ago but not working after that, then I have to
restart the DNS server or go to DNS Manager to delete the Cache for
that particular web site, after that it is working again. Any idea
why? Can someone sugguest a solution to me? Thanks.

You probably need to secure the cache from pollution. See:

241352 - How to Prevent DNS Cache Pollution
(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=241352).

Then, strictly speaking, you are in the wrong newsgroup.

Enable "secure cache against pollution" first of all.

I have a simmilar problem.

Here is our setup.

We use bind as external DNS which is located in the DMZ.
We use MS-DNS server as our internal DNS for AD and local
adress resolution for special purpose. (like: me creating
a web site on my personal machine...)

We configured at least one DNS server per location, we have
building across the state (one state) which are all networked
together with WAN link.

The problem is that once in a while a particular adress wont
be resolved anymore.

Ex: intra.atak.qc.ca will no longer be resolved while mail.atak.qc.ca
will resolv succesfully.

I checked and the cahce pollution protection is active on our DNS
servers.

Can someone help me get through this?
