WinMediaPlayer is nice - but it uses too may resources on an old P233
will under 100 meg of memory. (Not my main machine -I use it for -
Well, I'm not sure!

I really liked WhopSee, but unless I'm missing something, it's not
suited for playing from the HD. But it is efficient -uses little
resources! Plus, I have and old CD player and it doesn't recognize the
audio disks I've burned...Yeah, for $20. I can solve that...

Is there a player that doesn't require a magnifying glass to read the
track list and isn't too finicky about what it reads - yet isn't a
memory hog like WinPlayer?

(Oh, the fountain of youth would be nice while you're at it.)

BTW -- I like the funky 'sigs' that come with the Mozilla plug-in!

Well, foobar2000 reads quite a lot and you can set the font size for the
playlist any size you want, up to 72pt. Yet, you will need a magnifying
glass and Sherlock Holmes' assistance to find the correct option...
Also, I am not sure how many resources it uses, but less then WMP afair.

I'm on my way to check it out! I need 'original' dram for the old box
-- it only has to slots for ram, it's full at 96 meg -- (P233)

It has two slots for ram and dram -- of course they can't be combined...

I think (I don't know) if I can find 2 128 meg chips in the 'old' dram.
It ain't easy to find...

Hey, I just fired it up in the old box -- It played a burned audio CD
-- Seems to put no strain on the OS...Thanks a bunch -- I'll keep
my fingers crossed! It has the 'look' I wanted (I can see the files!)

Five stars in the first foru minutes!

Heya Michael;

I used to be a fan of coolplayer but their development dried up a while
back. I'm now using XMPlay. It'll pretty much play whatever you point
the proggy at including .ogg and internet radio. In fact, it takes care
of all your concerns *except*...

Damned tiny fonts.

Eh,

I think I have several problems (computer related).

First, 96 meg of ram isn't enough. I have to fiind some cheap dimms
that will run on a P-233. It only has two slots and I'm not sure what
I'll have to pay for a couple of 128 meg dimms -- plust I have to
throw a couple of switches on the MoBO.

I also have an ancient cdrom -- no excuse for that. However I got a
new one a couple weeks ago and after it was intsalled I fiddled with the
power jack - It shorted the damn thing out [sigh]

It's a great machine - but only a backup. I have a new P-4 so I
don't want to put have the cost of the new machine to upgrade this one.
I'll have to first find a way to boost the ram and then be careful
with tne next rom.

I will give XMPlay a shot - Cool play started out OK - but it locked
up. Prolly not the fault of the software.

Nah, I've got to find a cheap way of addressing the ram deficiency or I
don't think I'll have much luck -- I will report back. Thank for the
clue. I can handle the tiny fonts!.

WhopSee seemed to 'last' the longest without crashing... On to XPplay...
Thanks again. (I wish people called me Sparky!)

Well, Sparky? I installed XMPlay on my new box - good that you
included a support link. Seems as though that little toy has great
ambitions! Funny thing? Media Player 'works' fine..but my CPU time is
at 100% - If I blink (or open a file..) it freezes. I do like the
possibilities of XMplay - now to figure what I need to do with it!

OK, so far? XPplayer is great. No crashes - minimal memory use -
Plus?! The plugins to play zip and rar files? Now I have a wealth of
data in storage...that is easy to play!

I still have some learning to do? But I'm not rushing out to buy RAM
right now - though I will be shopping.

Thanks a bunch Sparky!

Just a quick correction...that's XM Player, not <shudder> XP. <grin>
Glad to be of service.

Yeah, I saw the sparks...XM XM XM XM XM XM XM XM XM XM

As for a larger font? Many of the plugin skins offer more readable if
not larger fonts. Ya don't need to fill a whole screen and everything
you need is a prettty good size (depending on the skin and there are
?hundreds?

Q: Is there a way to associate my .wpl playlists from Windows Media
Player? I didn't find a plugin. So I could click on a .wpl file and it
would open the list in XMplayer? Maybe I could try?!

However? I've used a bunch of players? If someone has a better one
than XMplayer? I haven't seen it. Ya gotta check out the site to see
all the configurtions -- w/tiny plugins. If only I could find a burner
that was that logical!

Bravo!
