Something Installing Itself as a Yahoo! Toolbar

Hi... I have a question about the dialog box that pops up when something is
automatically allowed to be installed. My computer automatically allowed the
Yahoo! Toolbar to be installed - I wasn't on Yahoo! at the time - and I
already have the toolbar. The problem is that when I ran McAfee, there was a
virus disguised or hidden or whatever inside a folder of Yahoo! - so whatever
my computer just allowed contained that crap which automatically installed
and now I have hella pop-ups. How do I get in there and block that from ever
happening again? I know you can restore items you have blocked... can you
block items that you've allowed? Thanks!!! ~Angie

When you install the flash player the provision to instll the Yahoo tool bar
is prechecked. you have to uncheck it ifyou don't want the tool bar. This
may be on other dounloads too . you have to watch for it.

McAfee whould have noticed this virus trying to install, and should have
blocked it, unless you changed the default settings, allowed the installation
by mistakingly clicking allow when asked by McAfee, or McAfee was not
actively scanning the system.

I have McAfee VirusScan Online from AOL and have never had a problem with
any known virus or Trojan getting past it's real-time protection.

I'd suggest checking your settings for McAfee since the problem really lies
somewhere there and not with MSAS, since MSAS doesn't scan for
viruses/Trojans. Also, since the Yahoo! Toolbar is known to be free of
spyware, MSAS will allow it to install and for updates to take place. You
really can't blame an antispyware app with allowing a virus to install, when
the antispyware app has absolutely nothing to do with detecting/removing
viruses/Trojans, which is the job of an antivirus app.
