I am about to go over the deep end. Here is my problem. I have a JVC GR-D33U
mini Dv camcorder and no matter what I try I cannot get a movie off from. I
have tried everything that I can pull off the internet, the sequence on how I
turn it on, a new fire wire cable, looking for multiple entries in my
registry, nothing works. Here is the scenerio: the software is regonizing the
camcorder( calling it an AVC Compliant DV Device) and will control it(ff,
rewind, stop etc...) but WILL NOT capture anything off of it. I have tried
downloading the KB885222 patch and it will not load. I have seen in my
research that this too seems to be a problem. I know there must be other
people out there that are either fighting or have fought this same issue. Any
and all advice greatly appreciated. I read that Microsoft is coming out (or
already has) a service pack 3, do you think that this problem will be
addressed in this update?

"AVC Compliant DV device" indicates it is not recognising
your DV camcorder correctly. It should display as a "JVC cam"
in capture software, and an icon of a cam appears in system tray.
Have you previously had connected via firewire an external HD?
Or an external analog capture-to-firewire box?
I'm not familiar with that JVC model, but ensure in menu's that
"DV-OUT" is selected.

Check Device manager. There should be at least two entries:
1) "IEEE1394 bus host controllers"/ "VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host
Controller"
2) There should also be an entry for each firewire card installed, these
will be listed under: "Network adapters".

If Device manager correctly lists without problems (No exclaimation
or questionmarks). And as it seems your XP installation is fully
uptodate. RIGHT-click the entry for your firewire card under
Network adapters, and from the sub-menu select "Uninstall".
You will see warnings etc, proceed with the uninstall.
Once complete, close all windows, and reboot.
Upon restart, XP will detect the PCI firewire card.
XP has native support for firewire cards, just follow
the prompts and reinstall the card.

If still problematic after soft reinstall, it maybe a mobo issue,
It has been known just reinstalling the Firewire PCI card
in another slot to cure problems.

Whats the betting this is another question poster who won't
respond back?

Thanks, decoder! I have covered everything previously except the unloading
and reloading of the firewire card. This is the only thing that has ever been
installed on this card. This is an addon card that did not come with the
computer. Should that matter? I will let you know how the reinstall goes.
