Have two machines bothe running XP Pro and IE6. When trying to open certain
sites on one machine, I receive the message that javascripts must be
activated for the page to open. Javascripts are activated.

On the other machine, I simply receive the message that the page cannot be
found, and example is the yahoo mail sign in page.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check your User-Agent string

http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspx

(Go there and do a Ctrl-f Find for User-Agent:
--note the colon in the above search string)

Which name do you use for doing that?
In case IE is having a problem with your DNS start with:

http://login.yahoo.akadns.net/

That will try to redirect you to a preferred name (an alias)
but perhaps starting off with the canonical name will get you further.
Maximize your window and pay attention to what is happening
in the Status bar, Title bar and Address bar, as well as the main
display area. Even better clues could be obtained if you used
FiddlerTool to see the whole HTTP request and response flow.

Good luck
