Hey. I got a nagging problem, that wont go away with a windows reinstall, I think it might be router/modem linked, but I aint sure.

Some websites stop responding after a minute or so of use. Ebay and Hotmail are the central culprits. All other sites are fine, and this only seemed to start when I moved to a Netgear DG632 and an 8-port...hub?

Any ideas? Is it solveable by any means other than buying new gear?

Thanks! :)

Nice to see you Kenny :)

This can be caused by the MTU setting on the router, particularly those using AOL as their ISP - change it to 1400 and see if it helps :thumb:

MTU is the Maximum Transmission Unit setting - 1400 being bytes - ISPs generally have optimum settings which are best for the performance of their broadband network (AOLs is 1400, BT's 1458)

Netgears default is something like 1492 or 1500, and as I found when I installed a friends DG832 with AOL, I had to change the setting to 1400 to get it to work with certain sites like Hotmail which required authentication.

The setting can be found within the routers Advanced Settings - make a note of the default so if it doesn't work you can always divert back :thumb:

Thanks :) It was at 1458, I tried 1400, and now 1300, but no joy :(

My flatmates access is fine, I dont know why its just mine. I`ve tried changing the port on the hub, didnt help ( a couple times)
