Some sort of Email Spam virus

My husband's computer has been sending out emails with links to
foreign drug pharmacies, and places for Viagra, and other such junk.

The email is being sent to people on his own contact lists (which
included my email) under the cc: lists, showing everyones email. It
will have someone's name in the subject line. It shows its from him
his name & correct email, then it will typically have someone's name
in the subject line. Then in the email, it will contain a link to
whatever they are promoting.

We ran MacAffee and Spybot and couple of other programs but nothing
has come up on our scan. This must be a virus but how do we find it?

You mean McAfee AntiVirus?
You mean Spybot Search and Destroy?

(You should even provide more detail - such as versions of each of those
applications, definition update dates, etc.)

What email application (client, program opened when your husband
sends/receives email from whatever email provider he uses) is in use?

Windows XP I suppose is the operating system - but which version (Home?
Professional? Media Center?) and what service pack level (none, 1/1a, 2 or
3) is it at?

Internet Explorer v.... ? 6, 7 or 8?

I would suggest downloading and using (performing a full scan with and
removing whatever they find) MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware. I'd
probably (personally) dump McAfee AntiVirus and install Avira AntiVirus
(free) or eSet NOD32 (antivirus only, ~$59/two years U.S.)

By now, it's probably not "a virus" it's probably a whole collection of
various malware which makes sure that it will go undetected. And if you
buy 100 malware scanners and scan your computer...

Thus: take the Windows CD which came with your computer, boot from the
CD, choose install, reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows. The
longer you wait with that the worse your problems will get and the more
data from the computer can get stolen.
