Greetings,

I have a mixed novell/microsoft server environment. All the MS
servers are 2k. I will be aquiring 2 more servers within the next few
months that will be running 2003 server. Currently I have workstations
on W2k mostly, some few XP pro's out in the offices but not enough to
make a difference. I noticed upon arrival of our first XP system that it
didn't work well with our restrictive GPO, so have since taken those
systems out of the GPO. My questions are:

1) How will the mixed environment of 2k and 2k3 servers affect the users
since the AD is based on the 2000 server.

2) Based upon your answer to question #1, how would upgrading my
existing 2k servers to 2003 affect my 2k workstations in the same areas
that the current 2k server does on the XP's? In other words, will the
migration of AD to the 2003 OS play havoc on my GPO's and their
interaction with the 2000 workstations. We can't really afford to
upgrade all the 2k workstations to XP and the the servers as well if
they should be needed to be upgraded.

Thanks in advance...

[Christoffer Andersson] The end user are not effected, almost everything is
trasporent for the end-user until you take use of new fetures

[Christoffer Andersson] Group Policy Settings are improved yes. But we still
have support for all fetures for Windows2000. We can easy in the Group
Policy Editor see if the particular setting applies to Windows2000 , Windows
XP or Both for exampel. There is new fetures added to Group Policy within
Windows XP SP2 also. But there is always a pre-support. If you are
intressted in new fetures and how they applies and under wich Operative
System them are supported please see Group Policy Settings Reference for
Windows Server 2003:
