Dave

I am a user of my companies VPN not the network tech, but
I am trying to help them troubleshoot a problem.

When I connect to the office servers from home, I can log
into one of our servers by typing \\serverx in Windows
explorer and that server shows up within the 'Microsoft
Windows Network' group with complete access. When I try
to connect to our other server the same way, it makes a
connection but this server shows up in the 'Web Client
Network' group and nothing shows up when I click the
server.

Others have the same problem I have so we set up
temporary guest accounts for testing. In using the guest
accounts I and others have our same problems but others
were able to connect to both servers as they always
have. This makes me think it is setting on my computer,
but we all used the same directions for setting up VPN
from home.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem? If I knew why
the server was showing up in 'Web Client Network' group,
it might lead us to the answer.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi There,

It depends how your administrator assigns the network configuration for your
VPN connection. For showing the network groups and/or computer list in
network neighborhood (assumed you have WINS, internal routing inplace
etc..),
it will take times for listing the computer in the network neighborhood,
NetBIOS needs
time to learn (your computer) the just-registered-network!!

Take care,
J.H
