Some info boxes too small to read all info

Some info boxes are too small to hold all of the information displayed
inside, and I can't figure out how to resize them. A couple of
examples are:

- The MSCONFIG 'Startup' tab.

- The info box in disk defrag that shows files that didn't
defragment.

Many of these entries are chopped off on the right. How do I read
them? I can kind of slide the columns around on the msconfig box, but
there were entries on the defrag box that I simply couldn't read.
What's the trick to these things? Why didn't MS make them so that you
could maximize them like any other window?

You DON'T resize them, you USE the SCROLL BAR.

Next.

The box that shows which files did not defragment does not have a
scroll bar.

No cookie for you.

BTW, the MSCONFIG box *does* have a scroll bar, but you still have to
resize the entries in the title bar to see long entries. Why would
they not provide a normal re-sizeable window? In Windows 98, I can
make this box full screen if I like.

... et al.

Well, with todays screensizes and resolutions, we can't really make any
use of bigger windows-resolutions then is provided, can we?

Irony aside. The msConfig window could be resized back in Windows 4.x
(as in Win98). That's called progress i s'pose. At least the reverse has
happend elsewhere, e.g. for the Device Monitor.

Sorry, i don't generally accept cookies over the net. Wasn't the first
either, so nevermind.

Drag the right edge of the rightmost column. You can do it - as far as the monitor edge.

Ctrl + Number Pad Plus Key in Explorer (or anything using a windows list control) Auto sizes all columns

Well I'll be damned. "Logic" was telling me that trying to drag the
last column past the edge of the visible window would be pointless,
but that magically caused a scroll bar to appear at the bottom of the
screen.

Bless you.

Everyone else but me knew this, didn't they? :p

Sorry BUT you are WRONG AGAIN, the scroll bars are there too. Since
Windows WILL provide Scroll bars when the data to be displayed exceeds
the size of the dialog box, there is something wrong with your settings.
Either you have managed to set the default font and size or magification
to be something that Windows believes will fit but doesen't, or you have
some menu addon or malware running and this is a side effect. I suggest
that you investigate and see how you managed to get your system to the
point where the text can't be seen in the dialog box window and undo or
correct it.
