I had a list of I.E. Favorites, with folders at the top, and individual
listings underneath. Now the folders stop at the letter F, and nothing is
underneath. Any suggestions?

Hi Joy :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, or IE (SP1 or SP2),
which always important information when posting to the newsgroups. Thus, I
will guess here...try the following and see if it helps:

Go to Windows Explorer (Not IE)> navigate to your User folder, which would
likely be C:\Documents and Settings>your user name>Favorites, if using XP or
W2K. Open the folder and see if all the folders are there. If they are
then try Step #1. If they are not, then try Step #2 below: If you backed
up your Favorites then you need only restore the backup. If you didn't back
them up, then you should use Step #3 when you have finally restored your
Favorites.

Step #1.

Go to Tool >Internet Options >Advanced tab
Uncheck "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu"
Click on Apply then click OK.

Open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]
In the right-pane, double-click "Favorites" and copy the value and post it
here.

The correct value should be: "%USERPROFILE%\Favorites"

Use FolderRedirector utility and reset the shell folder paths for Favorites
to the default values (both user shell folders and shell folders registry
keys)

Using FolderRedirector utility to redirect special folders in Windows XP:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/folderredirector.htm

In XP..there is a local user policy for Favorites, and there is a check box
to delete the Favorites and only use the Favorites provided in the policy.
Check to be sure this setting is not selected.

or...

It might be an incorrect Registry setting:

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys: (ignore the second if the value is not there)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

Step #2.

It could also be that the Favorites folder is corrupted and you will need to
create a new one:

Back up what Favorites you still have, using the Step #3 information, then
follow the instructions here to create a new folder. Then you can restore
the Favorites from the backup. However, you will need to recreate all those
that are missing. Then back up the entire list again when completed.

Create a new Favorites folder as per the instructions here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers3.htm#favorites

Try creating new folder in our Favorites in IE and name it something you
will easily remember and stand out readily. Then go to Start>Search> and
enter the name of that folder and see where it shows up. It may well be
that you'll find the rest of the missing Favorites links there was well.
You can then just drag them over into the correct Favorites folder and
delete the incorrect folder.

Sorry I never checked back on this - we were busy packing to move for the
winter. At the same time, my computer had to be formatted, and when the
technician reinstalled things, I had him install an earlier backed up
version of My Favorites, that DID still have all the missing ones. Thanks
for your reply.
